Of all the scenes that my eye captured during a lifetime of travels with music, some have really stuck and they often come back to remind me who I am.
The one that inspired this song actually happened in Paris long ago:
A busy intersection at the end of a normal day in the city, at rush hour.
A young prostitute is standing in the middle of a swarm of cars, on a refuge island, exposed to the lecherous stare of a hundred headlights.
I noticed she was wearing headphones as she subtly danced to the rhythm of the music and I was struck by this thought:
“If music can ever shield someone from the rapacity of others then that is the one I want to write.”
